The Parents’ Guide to Student Success was developed by National PTA in response to the Common Core State Standards in English language arts and mathematics that more than 45 states have adopted. Created by teachers, parents, education experts and other from across the country, the standards provide clear, consistent expectations for what students should be learning at each grade in order to be prepared for college and career. Connect for Respect is a National PTA initiative to encourage PTAs across the country to lead conversations in their school communities about bullying, how it is affecting their communities, and to develop solutions that they can implement collaboratively together. Click to see Bullying: Connect for Respect.
The Illinois PTA was founded on May 30, 1900, and has since worked diligently to support public schools and to ensure that all children and youth have equal opportunities and access to a quality education. We are a state-wide volunteer organization dedicated solely to the welfare of children and youth in the home, school, and community. The Illinois PTA is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and is guided by an approved set of bylaws. Check out their website at: illinoispta.org
Illinois teachers are bringing the new Common Core State Standards into their classrooms. In Illinois, academic standards have not been updated since 1997, so Common Core is long overdue. Common Core is a baseline of shared goals and expectations outlining what each student should know and be able to do by the end of each grade level.
